Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is
located in Fukushima Prefecture Japan, 250km from Tokyo. It is the Tokyo Electric Power Company's
first nuclear power. There are six units plant, total generating capacity of
4.7 GWE. It is one of the world's largest power plant generating capacity. The
first unit started to operation in 1971.
On 2011 11th of March there was a big earthquake and tsunami that damaged the nuclear power plants and it exploded. it hindered oversea assistance. After a few hours to a few days, No1,2,3
reactor core dissolved and destroyed. The Government of Japan announced an Emergency nuclear disaster on March 11 and an evacuation of 170,000 people who lived nearby Fukushima Prefecture to avoid the release of radiation outside the
health damage caused. International Atomic Energy Agency has defined this is
level 6 nuclear disaster. It is called the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power
plant accident. It is the most serious nuclear accident after 1986 the Chernobyl
nuclear power plant accident.
Before the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power
plant accident, there were somethings happen in TEPCO. During the end of 2002
through 2005, the reactors were among those shut down in a time for safety
checks during the TEPCO data falsification scandal . On Feb 28, 2011 TEPCO
submitted a report to the Japanese Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency
admitting that the company had previously submitted fake inspection and repair
reports. After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power
plant accident, the disaster disabled the reactor cooling systems that leading
to releases of radioactivity and triggering in 30 km evacuation zone
surrounding the plant. Because the local fishermen and nuclear watchdog agency
experts had suspected that the problem will occur but the Tokyo Electric Power
Company denied the existence of this problem. but the Japanese Prime Minister
Shinzo Abe ordered the government to intervene to deal with this urgent
problem.
July 22, 2013, Tokyo Electric Power said
that nuclear power plant is leaking radioactive wastewater into the Pacific
Ocean, On August 7, 2013, Japanese officials said highly radioactive water was
leaking from Fukushima Daiichi into the Pacific Ocean about 272 metric tons per
day. This wastewater is sufficient for the health of employees working near
hazardous. The sewage leakage accident was awarded the International Nuclear
Event Scale (INES) in level third.
Fukushima nuclear accident have led to a
more measured trace radioactive substances, including iodine-131, cesium-137 in
the world.
a
large number of radioisotope nuclear accident released into the Pacific Ocean.
a large number of radioactive substances have been released into the land and
the sea. it will affect half-life 30 years.
The government banned the sale of food produced in this region. Tokyo
government officials recommended avoid using tap water to the baby food diet
modulation.
Some experts think that it was a
super-disaster exceeding the expected
over than the risk engineers design Some
scholars believe that nuclear power plants are forced to use water as a
coolant, but the water will corrode nuclear fuel rods, the formation of
clusters with uranium, a cluster but it is transferred to the sea, you can not
long survive in nearby waters, make the nuclear contamination problem becomes
more severe.
