W12-A strange person

I worked in many different jobs when I was young. Administrative, office assistant, sales assistant, waitress. There is one thing I think I will never forget. When I was a college student, I worked in Karaoke as a waitress. Servicing guests, taking orders and doing some cleaning after the guests leave.

One day, it was the same as usual and it was nearly midnight. I was nearly finish working. I took a bill to the big room to a customer. I thought after those guests leave I can have a break. Then I walked in the kitchen to take some thing for the guest suddenly I heard a big bang "BOOM"!! I saw people jump down from level 3.( I was in the basement.) And he wailed and just fell on stairs. I went close to him and saw a lot of blood on his body. At that moment, a girl walked to us she said she was a nurse she can help to check his injury. She ask me to get some ice for the injury. Then she told me we have to call 911 and tell them his limbs are fractured but he is still clear. 10 mins later, his friends came and ask him why did you do that? then emergency personnel came as well. They asked this guy`s friend to come to the hospital with him for some information if the police ask.

After this crazy thing, I finished cleaning my area then had my break. In the staff lounge, I saw a lot of staff talking about this thing. Then I knew what happend now. In Level 4 this is special guest. You can feel they are underworld people. The big leader took his team to celebrate his birthday. There were many teams with a lot of younger people. After my co-worker  took a bill to them about 10 min later, one of the team leader ask one of the team younger boy said "you don`t have enough money and what do you say? what?! what do you say?!!" " Don`t ask me what should I do now? you tell me!" After this team leader left. 5 min later he jumped down.  And my co-worker was scared and after then you know I already told you. I was scared as well. What a strange person?!!

Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is located in Fukushima Prefecture Japan, 250km from Tokyo. It is the Tokyo Electric Power Company's first nuclear power. There are six units plant, total generating capacity of 4.7 GWE. It is one of the world's largest power plant generating capacity. The first unit started to operation in 1971.

On 2011 11th of March there was a big earthquake and tsunami that damaged the nuclear power plants and it exploded. it hindered oversea assistance. After a few hours to a few days, No1,2,3 reactor core dissolved and destroyed. The Government of Japan announced an Emergency nuclear disaster on March 11 and an evacuation of 170,000 people who lived nearby Fukushima Prefecture to avoid the release of radiation outside the health damage caused. International Atomic Energy Agency has defined this is level 6 nuclear disaster. It is called the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident. It is the most serious nuclear accident after 1986 the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident.

Before the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, there were somethings happen in TEPCO. During the end of 2002 through 2005, the reactors were among those shut down in a time for safety checks during the TEPCO data falsification scandal . On Feb 28, 2011 TEPCO submitted a report to the Japanese Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency admitting that the company had previously submitted fake inspection and repair reports. After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, the disaster disabled the reactor cooling systems that leading to releases of radioactivity and triggering in 30 km evacuation zone surrounding the plant. Because the local fishermen and nuclear watchdog agency experts had suspected that the problem will occur but the Tokyo Electric Power Company denied the existence of this problem. but the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ordered the government to intervene to deal with this urgent problem.

July 22, 2013, Tokyo Electric Power said that nuclear power plant is leaking radioactive wastewater into the Pacific Ocean, On August 7, 2013, Japanese officials said highly radioactive water was leaking from Fukushima Daiichi into the Pacific Ocean about 272 metric tons per day. This wastewater is sufficient for the health of employees working near hazardous. The sewage leakage accident was awarded the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES) in level third.

Fukushima nuclear accident have led to a more measured trace radioactive substances, including iodine-131, cesium-137 in the world.
a large number of radioisotope nuclear accident released into the Pacific Ocean. a large number of radioactive substances have been released into the land and the sea. it will affect half-life 30 years.  The government banned the sale of food produced in this region. Tokyo government officials recommended avoid using tap water to the baby food diet modulation.

Some experts think that it was a super-disaster exceeding  the expected over than  the risk engineers design Some scholars believe that nuclear power plants are forced to use water as a coolant, but the water will corrode nuclear fuel rods, the formation of clusters with uranium, a cluster but it is transferred to the sea, you can not long survive in nearby waters, make the nuclear contamination problem becomes more severe.

W3- A difficult day at work

====================home work start line===========================

About 2 years ago, I was working for a hotel in Queenstown New Zealand. It is a big hotel especially during the winter season, many people stay here for skiing or snowboarding. They ski in the daytime and party in the night time. I was a housekeeper. Every workday I had to clean the room, serve the clients and keep the hotel tidy. Sometimes you get tips, food or beer when they check out. sometime you get a dirty room you need to clean a long time, then you think what the hell with these people, especially after last night`s party.

One morning, as usual I started to doing the same thing in the housekeeping. When I started to do the first room there was an outrageous  thing happened in this room. Everything was broken. Mirrors, the LCD TV, the Microwave, plates, glasses. Everything that could be broken was all broken. I told the manager this and she told me that "come back to clean it later start in another room first because there will a big group of guests arriving today. You have to finish cleaning before 3pm. I will find someone to help you and I have to report this first."  Then I start to clean the second one, but when I went in to the room I saw the same thing, then I told the manager again. Finally the third rooms were more like normal people check-out type, but it already 9:30. I did not finish one room and I still had 10 rooms needed to clear and 10 rooms need to be serviced. It meat I had to finish one room in 20 minutes. It could not be possible. But I still tried as quickly as I could.

Finally I finish cleaning and services the 20 rooms. It was already 3pm. Then  I wanted to go back to start cleaning the two dirty rooms. They were still dirty, for sure, no one helped me, then I call the manager she said she already reported it but forget to find someone to help me to clean them. After 10 min, she came here, and then told me because the guests had a big party last night and they were too noisy that affected the other guests so the reception called the police last night and turned them out. Now we will charge them a damage fee and cleaning fee, so you have to remember what time you started to clean and when you finished, and how many people cleaned those two rooms, ok ? After the manager left, we started to clean those rooms. When we finished the rooms it already 6pm and I was so tired. What a day.

W7- An unpleasant Holiday

Last Saturday was a lovely sunny day. There was blue sky and breeze. That day, there was the Brisbane Zombie Walk 2013. I were too late to know about this event so I missed the ticket sale. When I saw the news from the web site, ticket and T-shirts had already sold out. But there was still The Walk and began at 3 p.m, so I chose to join the walk.

The Brisbane Zombie Walk is an annual event helping to raise funding and awareness for The Brain Foundation of Australia whilst offering the public a unique and entertaining charity event. This year, the walk will be held at RNA Showgrounds on Sunday October 6th (Labour Day long weekend).                                                                                               http://brisbanezombiewalk.com/

On the morning, I were so excited to join this walk. Before this walk, I walked around Queest st. mall to have look around and tried to find something interesting thing, maybe to help me to join The Walk. Then I saw the sunday market in the Square next to Brisbane Library. There were many hawkers sell many different thing like clothes, books or handmade items and it was really cheap. I bought a T-shit and short jeans for  just $4 dollars. That`s a good deal. After shopping, I went to join the Walk.

The Walk started 3 pm from RNA Showgrounds followed Gregory Terrace to Victoria Park then returned to the showgrounds. When I arrived there The Walk already started. People dressed like Zombies. This year, they introduced the ‘Carnival of the Dead’ to celebrate the freaks, the ghoulish and the bizarre. You can see the people dressed as many different types of freaks like Strap in yer Eyeballs, chinese Zombies, the film Nightmare Before Christmas Jack,  child like Dracula etc. It was really fun. I was enjoying the Walk with them on the street and took a lot of photos.  Then when I went back to the station I just realized where are my clothes? I lost them!!! In that bag there was a very important notebook and a pen was gone as well. And I can not remember where I lost it. I were so sad and tried to find it. I walked back to look around 3 times and still could not find it. The notebook has the my memory of those years. And the pen, it had stayed with me already for 9 years. I really liked this pen. But it`s gone. I am really sad about the notebook and pen. I was happy to join the Walk on the morning, now I was sad. It`s an unpleasant holiday.

W5- A robbery

內容有點奇怪是因為原本以為這篇是要做簡報presentation用
但其實只要寫報告就好
所以就變成文張看起來是用power point做的報告=.=||

Robbery is the crime of taking or attempting to take something of value by force or threat of force or by putting the victim in fear.

Many states define robbery as theft/ larceny of property or many through the offenders use of physical  force or fear against a victim. Where a deadly weapon such as a gun is used or the victim suffers injury. The robbery maybe charged as "armed" or "aggravated".

The elements of Robbery is
* The taking with the intent to steal of the personal, property of another from his or her person or in their presence.
* Against his or her will by violence, intimidation or the threat of force.
Robby is always a felony because its inherently violent nature.

There are many different types of robbery, depending what type of material is being stolen. The types include piracy aggravated robbery, armed robbery and highway robbery.

A real story about what I saw when I was travelling in Surfers Paradise, I  was walking around a shopping center. Suddenly a handsome beach guy was running, while another old man was shouting to the young man "stop the thief" "robbery"!!!!! At that time, a group of students tried it, but it didn't work. While I was trying to stop the thief. it didn't work as well. But when the thief was running somewhere past me, he lost his iphone. It just in front of me, so I picked it up.

A old Japanese woman ran out and stopped there. She was totally frightened. She couldn't talk when I wanted to. I want to give her the phone that the thief lost.  At this moment, a beautiful golden haired white girl walked to us, she talked to the Japaness woman in Japanese. Now i was frighten, After give the phone I left.

The former Gold Coast police district recorded 283 armed and unarmed robberies in 2012/13 up from 242 the previous year.

W2-Your country

Where is my country? Taiwan, it is between Japan and the Philippines, next to China. Taiwan's total land area is only about 36000 km2  . 212.5 Taiwan=1 Australia. Our capital is Taipei.

Taiwan is shaped like a leaf that is narrow at both ends. It is located on the western edge of the Pacific vim of fire. The geography has majestic peaks, rolling hills, plains, basins and coastlines and other wonders. It has a lot earthquakes every year. The island of Taiwan has the highest density of tall mountains in the world. There are 258 peaks over 3000 meters. Taiwan has the only Marble gorge in the world.

The population in Taiwan was 23,315, 822 in 2012 and Australia is 23,029,674 in 2013, which means that our populations ate the same but Taiwan is smaller than Australia. You can imagine how crowded it is in Taiwan. Taiwan had the second highest population density in the world rankings in 2011. Because of its small area, we make our life convenient everywhere. We have 24hr stores with 4 systems, 24hr  book stores, day markets and night markets everyday in different areas. You can taste many different styles of snack, dinner or drink any where.

The most famous kinds of food are Xiao Long Bao, oyster Vermicelli, stinky tofu, meat zong, sausage rice with meat, bubble tea etc. The people who live on the island speak different languages. Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hakka and Indigenous languages. Most people can speak Mandarin.  We respect different religions.  It doesn't matter if you believe in Buddhism, Taoism or Christianity etc. You have religious freedom.

About 20 years ago, our buildings started to change because of the population growth. Our traditional architecture was beautiful, but now we have many modern buildings and the buildings are getting higher.( It is not healthy.) The worlds tallest building was constructed in Taiwan. (I meaning a building not a tower) Taipei 101 is 508 meters in height. (But there is a new building in Dubai which is higher than Taipei 101. ) Also we have the most beautiful station in the world.

Every year we have many different activities or festivals to celebrate things. The most important celebrations in Taiwan are New Year ( Taipei 101 will have fire works), Chinese New Year (We will get red envelopes and put sky lanterns etc.), the Dragon boat festival and the moon festival.

W1- Your life story

When I was young I was already interested in architecture, so I went to technical school. It was about new architecture which means you can have crazy ideas or imagine a new building wherever you like.  ( In fact,  that's not real)

In college, I studied about how to fix old buildings or an historical houses and empowerment communities. That was an interesting department. After school, I was working for an architecture office and Construction Co. for about 5 years. Worked late and woke early everyday. No holidays , no family time. I just thought, will I keep doing it? No! I need to go away. So I went a working holiday to Australia and New Zealand. I loved it, I loved being a traveler. When I was in Australia and New Zealand, I just realized that English is important. Especially if I want to stay overseas. I have to improve my English.  That's why I am here.

After school, I wish I can do something with my professional skills, like be a architect or be a chef or teach snowboarding then I can keeping traveling and working until I get sick.  :P

W8-A type of business

Hawkers also known as street vendors sell goods in the street or open space a kind of historical ancient commercial type. There are two types of hawkers:  itinerant hawkers and fixed hawkers. Normally itinerant hawkers are seen in streets or public places. They are moving with people. Fixed hawkers stay in the same place or markets at the sometime. They sell food, vegetables or fruit clothes or bags etc.

Usually a hawker stand will be staffed by the same person. They grow or make the products or buy them from wholesalers and are located at a convenient location on a road either on the farm or other public place. They sell cheap or ready- to-go food or drink.  Hawkers belong to the common people economy. Because most of them don’t have store, so operating costs are lower. The price of the commodity can be low. Also they need low capital, low education and experience of fractioned threshold. They have a clustering effect customer base street vendor often aggregate. Customer base from market.  There may be a lot of reasons why people purchase from hawkers, such as to obtain reasonably priced and flavourful food or products to experience ethnic cuisines also for nostalgia. Hawkers are found around the world but there are variations within regions and cultures. In some area, like Hong Kong or Taiwan, it may be illegal when you begin hawkers in the street.

Because hawkers income counties in Aria often take the walking or sidewalks. So they are banned by police in densely populated areas. Also a feature of hawkers make it difficult for the tax, authorities to obtain fair taxation. Many popular vendors earn too low to pay taxes

W4-A progession

An architect can plan, design and oversee the construction. Because an architect’s decision will affect public safety, so an architect must have specialized raining consisting of education and a practicum. Normally it is a 4-5 year course. You will learn technical knowledge, building design, planning and management skills.

To become an architect you will need 3 requirements:  education, experience and examination. In Australia, if you want to be a registered architect, you will need a degree from architectural school accredited by the AACA (Architects accreditation Council of Australia) at least two years of practical experience and finish the architectural practice examination. In Taiwan, you have to do the same thing as will.

There are many courses you need to learn when you study. You need to know the history and theory of architecture, design computing architectural construction and computation, different types of architecture. For example: China, Japanese or European. Design inquiry, day lighting, furniture materials and construction etc. Then you can do architectural design in every semester.

An architect can work in many sectors including real estate development urban planning, construction, interior design civil engineering...etc, depending on how many years experience you have.  Also even if you graduated from architecture school, you still need to have a license. So that’s why an architect is a professional job, like a doctor or lawyer, especially in Taiwan where there are a lot of earthquakes. An good architect need to build safety building
