World Vision is a Christian international belief and development agency. It`s also Australia`s largest charitable NGO group. They focus on the well being of all people, especially children. Their projects emphasis:
1. The need of children
2. Long-term viability and sustainability
3. education including literacy and skills training
4. Gender equality
5. HIV and AIDS education and prevention
6. Affordable technology solutions.
In 1947, American missionary Dr. Robert Pierce traveled in china and Korea. He met a lot of people who were always without food, clothing shelter or medicine. Early the Korean War, he helped set up orphanages to take care of children who had been abandoned or orphaned. After he went back to the U.S, he started raising funds. In September 1950, World Vision was founded . Now, they work in nearly 100 countries. World Vision is one of the world`s biggest disaster relief poverty alleviation and development of civil society institutions.
World Vision has five major area activities: emergency, relief, education, healthcare, economic development and promotion of justice by disasters or conflict and who need immediate assistance, for example: 2008 Sichuan earthquakes in China, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquakes, famine in North Korea, 2011 Tohoku-Pacific Ocean earthquake etc. They help the children and families who live in poverty create lasting positive change in their lives. Focused primarily on child sponsorship, they provide food and shelter for children in orphanages through child sponsorships.
Sometimes they fund-raise by 30-hour Famine activities or let you choice a girl or boy to sponsor. 30-hour famine is a critical fundraiser. It also aims to give young people a sense what it is like to be poor and hungry. According to World Vision`s consolidated financial Statements. 40% of them revenue comes from private sources including individuals. World Vision clubs in school, corporations and foundations.
